Disclaimer: this is coming from a person who has lived in DC for almost 2 years and is in his early 30s...


  • Taqueria Habanero (Mexican)
  • Cielo Rojo (Mexican) – Get the chilaquiles, waffle 'sope'
  • Muchas Gracias (Mexican)
  • Taqueria Xochitl (Mexican) – Get the queso birria tacos, tlayudas, horchata, choco flan.
  • El Sol (Mexican)
  • Poca Madre (fancy Mexican food, but soo good) ☹️ closed?
  • Little Miner Taco (In Maryland but their food truck comes to DC and they're opening a DC location soon)
  • Las Gemelas (Mexican) – the tacos, tlayudas, blue corn tortillas and their cocktails too!
  • Republic Cantina (Tex-Mex) – fajitas, breakfast tacos, spicy marg.
  • La Famosa (Puerto Rican) – cafecitos, arroz con gandules, tripleta, pastries: quesitos and guava pastelitos!
  • Colada Shop (Cuban) – cubanitos, guava bbq lechon sandwich.
  • Mi Cuba Cafe (Cuban) – ropa vieja
  • China Chilcano (Peruvian Criollo+Chinese+Japanese) – good chilcanos & ceviche.
  • Chicken & Whiskey (good chicken and whiskey)
  • Roy Boys (fried chicken sandwiches)
  • Astro Donuts (donuts + fried chicken)
  • ABC Pony – good burgers!
  • Union Market (try many restaurants at once!)
  • Lucky Buns (burgers)
  • Bars

  • Haydees's Restaurant – for karaoke
  • 600t - lowkey speakeasy
  • Breweries

  • Atlas Brewery
  • Bardo Brewing - outdoor drinking
  • Latino groceries

  • El Progreso, 3158 Mt Pleasant St NW (its small, you can pick up tamales from the cash register too)
  • Mi Casita has good corn tamales, and has conchas and bolillos
  • This is the ONE where you’ll find everything: Mega Mart Latino Supermarket, 1101 University Blvd E, Takoma Park, MD
  • Places to dance cumbia (post-pandemic)

    This 30+ year old cant do late nights anymore, so...

  • Cafe Citron/Tropicalia (get there early, gets crowded late at night)
  • Wherever DJ Sir Ramses and DJs Leon/Claudia City Sounds spin music at. Usually at Greenzone and Songbyrd.
